The Knight of Malta defeated the Ottoman Turks, in 1565, during the Great Siege of Malta. This Real Crusades History video again mentions the Knight's Hospitallers, and their heroic leadership role for the defense of the island, against overwhelming numbers (bent upon spreading Islam throughout Europe). The tale of the Maltese Falcon originated, because the Pope gave the island to the Knights of Malta, and in return the Knights annually provided the Pope with a Maltese Falcon.
