Eugene of Savoy: One of the Greatest Generals of Early Modern Europe

Prince Eugene of Savoy was one of the greatest generals of early modern Europe. He is renowned for his victories against the invading Ottoman Empire and for his partnership with the Duke of Marlborough in the War of the Spanish Succession. Eugene of Savoy is remembered as Austria's greatest general and helped lay the foundation for Hapsburg power in central Europe. He became one of the richest men in Europe throughout his career from the spoils of his battlefield victories and relationship with the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.

Je parlais de la maudite Maison de Savoie, qui a été historiquement une source d'irritation pour les Français, mais surtout une vraie catastrophe pour l'Italie (à égalité avec le Vatican).

OK, tout ce qui est italien vient du Piémont (Nutella, grappa, Fiat, café espresso etc.), mais malheureusement sa tradition militaire aussi !
Tradition qui a toujours consisté à mener des petites offensives inconsidérées, juste pour voir ce qui allait se passer ensuite, et à changer de camp au milieu des guerres !
D'où les catastrophes qui ont suivi les attaques sur l'Isonzo pendant la 1ère Guerre mondiale (Caporetto), sans parler, durant la 2nde, des déroutes qui ont suivi les tentatives d'offensive sur les Alpes, en Grèce, en Egypte...

C'est la tradition militaire piémontaise, l'héritage maudit de la maison de Savoie.
