It is ironic and absurd that the EU has more official languages than the UN has (true, all internal documents and discussions take place only in English, French and German, but all external documents are written in thirty or so languages for the benefit of EU citizens). By contrast, the UN has just six official languages: English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Arabic. At a minimum, IMO the UN should add Japanese, Hindi, Swahili, German and Portuguese for official purposes. Nevertheless, I am interested in what others think.
