That's true in their written form, but most definitely not in their spoken form.

Hindi and Swahili are spoken in countries where English is also an official and more widespread language.
However, in those countries more people still use Hindi or Swahili as an everyday working language than English.

Japanese and German are not widespread lenguages, they are basically one-single country (Chinese too, but it's spoken by 1000 million people)
Japan and Germany are big powerful countries. Furthermore, in German's case, it is also the official language of Austria, co-official in Switzerland and Belgium, and is spoken by substantial numbers of people as a second language from the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Scandinavia and much of Eastern Europe and by German-speaking minorities in France and Italy.

The fact is the UN is still beholden to the immediate post-War divisions of power, and it is time for it to move on.

In order for UN to work it needs to instill fear (power). UN does not.

90% of the money is spent by the stuff members and only 10% goes to the people in need. UN is a legal way to extablish bases on foreign ground. the more you donate, the more members you get in the UN system. those people are serving their countries interests in different ways..mostly making lobbies but it does much deeper and sometimes much darker than that.

What difference do those bases make if Peacekeepers are hellbent not to use aggression of any kind. And in some crisis areas they have mostly been involved in pedophile activity.

to have presence in certain areas. being a UN stuff member opens many doors for you. you can help investors from your own country to get good deals, you can influence locals mentality through educatioal projects...especially in poor countries, rich in resources, this counts a lot...the positive opinion of the locals towards your country means a lot. it's very easy...you build some schools, teach them a few usefull things, you bring teachers from your country to teach them the language, and through the language your culture, they become fascinated with it....this is just a small exmple...UN can play a lot of games. the international law has changed. before it wasn't allowed to intervene in the internal affairs of a sovereign state.. now you can do it. there are 5 countries with power of decision in UN ( the UN council). it depends if they agree or disagree...

Even if there is some truth to that, there is no harm in replacing current UN with a more efficient organization, which can do all that, plus more.
