Considering they actually have more native speakers than English and let alone French, it is extraordinary the number of international organisations that still don't have either of them as official languages: the WTO, IMF and IOC particularly come to mind. Nevertheless, I am interested as to what others have to say about this.

I kind of agree with Spanish, but there are many more articles written in German than in Spanish on Wikipedia despite there being far fewer speakers of German worldwide. In the case of Chinese, the use of Mandarin hasn't spread appreciably beyond Chinese borders, Chinese minority communities in Singapore and Malaysia notwithstanding.

Interestingly, a study I read said that Spanish is well-represented when it comes to novels and poetry, but poorly represented when it comes to scientific and medical literature, whereas with Chinese it is the opposite.

    I will learn Spanish soon.
In my opinion, Brazilians should learn Spanish since they start school, it's one of the languages of Mercosul and one of the most important on globe, being in the second place when it comes to international comunication.

Yes, but only on "Ensino Médio" (High School).
But anyway, language classes in Brazilian schools tend to be very basic, you need to pay private courses in order to have a complete knowlege of it.

Well even so, how easily do you and most other Brazilians understand Spanish?
