Default Eye-Witness Account of The Viking Rus' // Ibn Fadlan 921 AD // Primary Source

Starting Vikings Month off with a bang. Here we have Ibn Fadlan's detailed description of the "Rusiyyah", a group of Viking people he encountered on the shores of the Volga
River whilst on an embassy to the king of the Volga Bulgars. His description gives us a detailed, meticulous window into a world often shrouded in legend and saga. Thanks to James E Montgomery for the use of his translation! https://nyupress.org/9781479899890/mi...

Ahmad Ibn Fadlan did not like their hygiene practices which he called them as "god's filthiest creatures", but at the same time, he did praised them in wearing clean clothes, groomed themselves and treated their slaves justly and so on.
