Austria and Brandenburg (later Brandenburg-Prussia, later just Prussia) were historically German states in East-Central / Eastern Europe.
They emerged as outposts of Saxons and Bavarians in the East, carved out from Slavic and Baltic territories.
Mecklenburg also has ties to the east as it never ceased to be ruled by a dynasty of Slavic origin (descended from Obodrite Prince Niklot).
Sachsen (Upper Saxony) also is an East-Central European country, definitely not a Western European one.
