Northeastern Poles are quite similar to Macedonians in terms of mindset. I only noticed small differences. Montenegrins probably least Slavic culturally. Definitively not closer to Italians. They're not even closer to Greeks than to Germans. Genetically however they're probably closer.

The "West" was based on the Western Roman Empire and later the Frankish Empire. Germany is western country in every way just like France. The central european identity is more common in Austria, but not in Germany.

Austria is no less a "child" of the Frankish Empire than Germany... but both are "bastards" at best.

Modern Germany was united by the Kingdom of Prussia, which was not even part of the Holy Roman Empire.

I mean its Prussian part was not in the HRE. Its Brandenburgian part was, but was just as eastern as Austria.

Both Austria and Brandenburg (which later formed Brandenburg-Prussia) originated as the Eastern Marches:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margraviate_of_Austria

The Saxons were originally Pagan, barbarian people, conquered and Christianized by the Franks by the way:

Okay but South France is fully Southern, and Central France is half way between North and South. So... ???
