    I know they're not genetically very distinct, but I still just consider Flemings to be the most Southern Dutch, and Walloons the most Northern French. The Belgian on this thread will protest at that but that's how I see it.

    Well genetically we are more homogeneous than Dutch and French. The Dutch have a genetic border with the Rhine and in France there are probably many regional differences. The most distinct area from others in Belgium, genetically, seems to be the province of Antwerp, as far as I can interpret genetic maps (correct me if I am wrong).
    I also think we cluster with Northern/Eastern France and Southwest Germany.

    The way I've come to see it, NW Europeans are so genetically similar anyway that cultural affiliations can just about override inconsistencies in the genetic picture.
