It's called "naricanje" that means lament or loud crying.

Often followed with singing songs named "tuzbalice" that means sad songs.
Women who do that (in past often professionally) were called "narikače".

I'm not sure this ceremony still exists in practice. Maybe in some rural places.

    In Romania they're called "bocitoare".
But I don't think the practice exists anymore. It was pretty common 100 years ago.

Not exactly singing, because that voice becomes a cry, which becomes a howl. The goal is to escape death from this house and not come again. Mourners are something like priests of death, they promote it. When there is a foreign death, there is wisdom in it, when it is close to one, there is grief in it, but in fact death is always one.
...Even if a man lives well, he dies and another one comes into existence. Let the one who comes later upon seeing this inscription remember the one who had made it. And the name is Omurtag, Kanasubigi.

Maybe only south east Serbs. One of my friends is from South east Serbia(Babusnica) and he gets butthurt whenever someone mentions Bulgarians, especially when we call him Bulgarian because of his native dialect.
Tho i think his maternal line is definitely Bulgarian by origin considering how their previous surname ended with "ov" and his great great grandfather was called Krum, which i think is unique Bulgarian name.

[/ QUOTE]

Families are a product of the 19th century in the form and endings we know today. Yes Krum is an extremely Bulgarian name, but not only. Others such as Kardam, Murtan / Murtak from Omurtag / Murtagon, Asparuh are known. Part of the Bulgarian names taken from the Ottoman defters for the area of present-day Northern Macedonia, Aegean Macedonia and Pirin Macedonia
...Even if a man lives well, he dies and another one comes into existence. Let the one who comes later upon seeing this inscription remember the one who had made it. And the name is Omurtag, Kanasubigi.

I have a question, what about a girl who celebrates Slava today on St. George's Day and tomorrow marries and goes to another family and becomes part of it, and there they celebrate Slava on St. John's Day?
Females who are married into a new family not only get the new families surname, but also the patron saint/Slava.
