They're so numerous where I don't think it'd be an issue to find 12-15 players tall enough, and good enough to play pro level ball with maybe the exception of India/Pakistan seeing as how they're probably the most non-athletic group of people in the world. China has already had a few players playing in the NBA, most notably Yao Ming so once they start emphasizing the sport even more then I can see Asia becoming relevant in the sport, kind of like what Japan did for their football program in the late 80s/early 90s. Hell, even Iran managed to have a player or two playing in the NBA. Africa is a strange one though but I think Nigeria is a candidate(Hakeem the Dream) among a few other nations. Either way, nobody is supplanting football, surely not in our lifetime.

I don't see any sport that could rival football.
Football has too many strong advantages.
You can play it just with a ball and improvise the goal with the tree or clothes like we all did a kids. close to no equipment is requiere.Without a basket i don't see how you can play basketball. As exciting as ice hockey is, well you need an ice ring and a lot of equipment to play.
Football can be play everywhere, outdoor or indoor, on grass, on mud, on concrete. Try playing rugby on concrete.
No matter your syze you have the possibility to became a top professionnal players, a thing who are impossible in volley or basketball.
People of different syze can play together without to much risk of injurys. For me it's a thing in a way you can rake your kids for a sunday afternoon of sport and play with them.
Also football has a various range of stuffs that can possibility happen. When i watch handball or basket it's seems rather always the same for me. But it might be because i know not much about it.
A team sport that i think will grow up in popularity is ultimate.

I think that any known sport will never replace football.
While in many sports you have to be tall (basketball), strong-musculous (rugby, american football), agile-fast (handball), in football almost any person can pla with a good performance: tall, short, strong, weak, fast or slow people, anyone can have a rule in the team, it´s an sport addapted to any kind of physical features.
That´s the reason why it´s the most popular sport in the world by far. All kinds of people feel represented by the team of his city/national team, because as they surely have played anytime of their lifes football more or less well, and it is a well known sport for them, that doesn´t happen with the rest of sports.
Even in the USA the MLS is growing very fast (and not only due to hispanics)
