I am shocked myself on how expensive healthcare is in the US:

Yep, frontier mentality combined with corporate capitalism. Everyone's on their own mindset. Even the tiniest hint of economic equality is seen as "socialism".

Except their general healthcare is also of lower quality. Western European standards, for the general public, are much higher but the Americans have excellent care for the very rich. I am not even shocked (I knew this because I know quite a few Americans) but outraged. "So if you're poor, you're dead !" That pretty much sums up Uncle Sam. How dare they talk about our "socialism" (which we don't have) when their own conservatives don't even sort out their own Christian conscience and look after the family values and charity part of their religion as applied in politics ?

In other words, if you're poor then you'd die in America. You know, this is exactly why capitalism needs to be placed in hold with policies and regulations to keep the inequality of wealth in check. The rich are getting filthy rich while the poor are getting filthy poor, and the middle class is slowly disappearing all together. Americans in general tend to be a people who don't think for themselves independently and instead think like lemmings.

it's pretty difficult to be proud to be an American when you have objectively the worst healthcare system in the developed world.......we pay twice more per capita and we cover less people......

we have overpaid doctors, price-gouging hospitals that have pretty much unregulated prices, an unnecessary, for-profit, price-gouging private insurance middleman, and we have a horrific campaign finance system that ensures that lobbyists for these goons can throw money at the politicians to ensure there is no meaningful change.....

luckily for me though i'm in the top 1% and the healthcare for rich people is pretty good lol....

I agree completely. Here the welfare state and generally accessible healthcare are a fait accompli, and we literally refer to them as verworvenheden (achievements) and we wear them as a national badge of honour. From Left to Right - you'd find no people willing to tear them down and it would be political suicide to do so. It had nothing to do with socialism - the whole social building came from liberal, protestant and catholic ideals (thus two Christian parties backed it) and came into being as a "social improvement" (yes, that's how they called it) or "an end to the Social Question" to protect the honest workman and his family.

It's quite true sadly, most suspicion and fear that regular people have is towards socialism or communism and not directed towards the ultra powerful elites. You can have a fair system which does not suffer from economic vampirism while not being "communist". The two are not mutually exclusive.
