I agree completely. Here the welfare state and generally accessible healthcare are a fait accompli, and we literally refer to them as verworvenheden (achievements) and we wear them as a national badge of honour. From Left to Right - you'd find no people willing to tear them down and it would be political suicide to do so. It had nothing to do with socialism - the whole social building came from liberal, protestant and catholic ideals (thus two Christian parties backed it) and came into being as a "social improvement" (yes, that's how they called it) or "an end to the Social Question" to protect the honest workman and his family.

America is becoming like how France used to be before the French revolution, and honestly, I would bet the upcoming American revolution would be more bloody than it's French counterpart. You can't change the system by simply voting since the system in itself is corrupt.

That's something that plagues us all but in the case of America, the ferocity of the corruption is quite shocking.

It's quite true sadly, most suspicion and fear that regular people have is towards socialism or communism and not directed towards the ultra powerful elites. You can have a fair system which does not suffer from economic vampirism while not being "communist". The two are not mutually exclusive.

The Leftists like to claim the glory because they rewrote some laws and stamped their names on them but the basic building of Western Europe's welfare states is either Christian or Liberal or both.. They did this in order to block the socialists. So you can have your social system and still be a right-wing country.

America is very polarized right now and someone who dislikes the left's social policies will have to join the Republicans who are openly corporatist shills. A lot of people on the right turn a blind eye to the power at the top due to their socio-cultural anxiety.
