It saddens me greatly how much I cannot seem to find Romanian samples with good region identification.

I've lived most of my life in Moldova and 5+ years in Transylvania and I'd argue Moldova is more Balkan shifted, but there are more radical Eastern European types than in Transylania.

In terms of ancestry calculators, I'd say Transylvania is more western shifted and Moldova is somewhere between the K15 Rep. Moldova average and the Romanian one.

That MtDNA study on Romania also classed Transylvania as pulling more towards Central Europe, but that was just in terms of MtDNA diversity and origins of those, not as ancestry.

In culture, Moldova, in terms of genetics and phenotype, Transylvania.

Transylvanians for genetics I assume but culture is another story. It raises the question if Transylvanian Romanians are the least Balkan acting people with significant Balkan genetics.

Your Transylvanian side is like 0% Slavic, incredible and unseen even in southern Balkans!!

I still don't get such phenomenom. Genetic isolate ancestry?

I don't totally understand it myself although my Dad does get a bit of Slavic when I run him on G25. I've seen other Romanians' DNA results from the Faragas region and I'm surprised by the lack of Slavic admixture, even compared to southern Romanians. Fagaras had a unique history, as you may know, but it doesn't strike me as that isolated geographically. This includes people with long histories in the area and typical surnames.

Thanks for the reply. Probably gedmatch is not the most accurate tool to measure this stuff indeed, but they really seen to have low levels of Slavic input anyhow. Interesting.
