My maternal side is English with some Welsh and Scottish. They started in Massachusetts but then fanned out to New York and New Jersey later. On the English side of that side, one family was Huguenot from France, they fled to the Netherlands, and then on to England where they came to what is now America in 1620. Their surname was Romaine (cf. Romijn) but it originally was Il Romano, in the 13th century, a man from a small town in Italy, had studied in Rome and had earned the title Il Romano, "the Roman" as was the custom of the time.

The Dutch and the English are genetically very similar, it doesn't really matter, Americans are Americans.

Genetics and ancestry are not the same in this aspect. I am sure that those two are distinguishable enough to tell apart on an ancestry painting.

Not anymore because there are no pure Dutch or Englishmen in America.

If 23andme and AncestryDNA can separate Irish from British, then Dutch could show up also.

Maybe maybe not, the accuracy of those sites is bogus. There's a video that explains how they're mostly bullshit.

Well, nothing of what you write so far answers the question. The topic is about ancestry, not how similar they are genetically.

Ancestry to that specific degree doesn't matter, Americans cluster in NW Europe and that's about as close as those tests can reliably get.

If an American has, say, Swedish ancestry, he still reports being of Swedish descent.

Only more recent immigrants or if you have the last name and known family history. It's a minority most simply identify as Americans.
