What other evils? I will sum it up: Third Worldism. As far as this island goes, we still havent recovered, and we wont do so until the stupid Quilombo experiment to the west is utterly crushed and steamrolled, just like the Romano-Britons in your island were steamrolled by the Saxon-Pictish tide.

That gets things the wrong way round: despotism and poverty have been the norm throughout human history, and the French Revolution was an attempt (however imperfectly) to overcome them.
