The worst ideas to emanate from France (and I am saying that as someone with some Francophile leanings) were (1) Rousseau's ideas about the "collective will", "forcing people to be free" and man being naturally free but everywhere in chains - all of which are more-or-less inversions of the truth and (2) postmodernism, with its belief that there is no objective, external reality and that what we consider to be conventional or true is just a "social construct" to benefit the powerful.

I used to be a Francophile too, don't worry. (I know, worst fit ever, but what can I say, hard not to have been so in college during those early days of 00's). It didn't help things that neocons were so retarded.
