Driving in mainland China is both challenging and dangerous, but why?

I doubt is about Formula 1 training, most likely they are in a hurry to get to work and it still doesn't show up in statistics.

Death rates from road traffic accidents by country, per 100,000 inhabitants, world map (WHO 2013).

Cool thing that they can't modify their cars, we constantly see people dying here as they try to modify some old clunkers.

China is a member of the World Health Organization(WHO) where these statistics are derived from(actually Chinese Szeming Sze eastablished the organization).

I don't see them lying about air pollution which is way more important and influences the rest of the world, why should they lie about traffic accidents?

You are aware of China's shame culture and the fact that they are a dictatorship ? They would have a reason to massage the figures to make themselves look better than they are.

I'm aware that I won't beat China by liking youtube videos, what has shame culture to do with these statistics? Are you suggesting that the authorities manipulate the statistics so their people would feel less guilty?

No. I am suggesting that they manipulate the statistics to make China look better than it is and make the CCP look better at making China safer than they are. The same can be seen in their crime statistics and in their school test results.

But middle aged white men are the worst drivers here.

Yet anecdotally, you rarely see middle-aged white drivers on the side of the road nor among casualties reported in media.

Chinese are commonly seen amongst those everyday fender benders.

Fair enough, I won't pretend I haven't seen them myself..

But the most dangerous in the most interesting way, are our Polynesian brothers and sisters freshly arrived to Aotearoa.
