although dna test mey see otherwise there definitely (if we follow history book about the Maghreb) still here in the Maghreb (well after they where defeated by the Almohads and deportation of some of them in the Moroccan region) and where not assimilated by the natives neither they did mass replacement of of it's Berber population (however they did mix with the local population which resulted in altering there blood/phenotype) so either the DNA test got wrong (or there is some DNA project that suggested they did an at least partial impact on the region) or no or few DNA trace of them is found in the Maghreb region so the historian got completely wrong
