About the ethnogenesis of the Volga Tatars -
The anthropology of the Volga Bulgaria/Middle Volga has not much changed since the arrival of the Turkic Bulgarians in the 7-8th century, which were both Caucasoid and Caucasoid-Mongoloid mixed people(The scholar data).
Hgs of Mishar Tatar of Penza: sample - 50 people.
E1b1b1 - 4%, I1 - 2%, I2a - 2%, J1 - 2%, J2a - 4%, J2b2 - 38%, L - 6%,
N1c1 - 2%, O - 2%, Q1b - 12%, R1a1a - 14%, R1b1a - 4%, T - 2%.
Another sample of Mishars (80 people) showed a different hg ratio, but 0% N1c.
The Mishars have a Finnic-Ugric Hg N1c, but possible a lot of less than the Kazan Tatars (25-28%).
The time of the divergency between the Tatar subclades of different hgs and the European ones is the Bronze / Iron Age. There are Finnish, Estonian, Latvian, West Germanic, Scandinavian lines (tmrca - Iron Age). Central Europeans: tmrca- Bronze Age;
Russian-Slavic lines are rare.

Its still so interesting to me how these people are turkics, but genetically europeans(not even balkan ones, but more like west european ones) with lots of mongoloid in them(as much as tajikstanis).

If we plotted all turkics on a dna-plot, the plot will be all over the place. Its pretty awesome

In the qpAdm model in Jeong et al. 2019 (The genetic history of admixture across inner Eurasia), Mishar Tatars actually had a slightly lower proportion of the East Eurasian (Ulchi) component than Kazan Tatars. (Also Northern Bashkirs had almost 20 percentage points lower East Eurasian ancestry than Southern Bashkirs.)



In figure 4 of the same study, Mishar Tatars also have a lower proportion of the Caucasus/Iran component than Kazan Tatars:



Therefore perhaps Mishar Tatars and not Chuvashes are actually the whitest Turkic people.

It's the same as Volga Tatars in general. They look whiter than Southern Europeans, and they pass more easily as Finns than people from the Balkans do, but I'm not sure about the question of this thread.

Because Turkics (as Indo-Europeans and Semites) spread to large territory and mixed with neighboring populations (Turks - with Europeans and Caucasians, Azerbaijanis and Uzbeks - with Iranians and Tatars - with Finns). Only descendants of Turkic tribes (Yoruks in Anatolia, Terekeme of Azerbaijan and nomad Uzbeks) are each related, but people such as Erdogan or Ilham Aliyev don't.

Theyre still mostly white. And they dont look that mongoloid either. A good couple in fact passes as english. Talking about volga tatars though....not sure if they represent most tatars or at least the ones OP posted

His nationality is Turkish, his ethnicity isn't. Ethnicity and Nationality are different things.
