Los turcos de Turquía son básicamente una mezcolanza de griegos, eslavos, kurdos, armenios, celtas e itálicos -gálatas- y varios pueblos iranios más, todo ello fusionado con la lengua turca y la cultura persa actuando como catalizadores. Vamos que los turcos anatolios en su gran mayoría son de todo menos turcos. Para ver turcos de verdad tienes que irte a Kazajistán, Kirguizistán, Siberia y el Turkestán chino. Y estos turcos cultural y étnicamente son mucho más cercanos a los mongoles que a los turcos anatolios.
Los azeríes más de lo mismo, son iranios lingüísticamente turquizados.
