More like a mix of English due to business and tourism, plus Arabic and Turkish due to demographics.

But the muslims that take over are too stupid to learn english.

Look at Mesut Özil, he was born here and his German is horrible, he plays in the UK for 5+ years and still need a translator.

Are Russian and Ukrainian as similar as Spanish and Portuguese then?

I meant that unlike Spanish, Chinese or Arabic speakers if you would have to do business with Germans or have a high-level discussion with any scientist/professional chances are 99% that they will speak English, like how you don't really need to learn Hindu to speak with high-level Indians.

As for Spanish and Portugese, i have no knowledge of this languages, but i can imagine situation being similar, somewhere between Spanish and Portugese and langue d'oc and langue d'oil.
