    I meant that unlike Spanish, Chinese or Arabic speakers if you would have to do business with Germans or have a high-level discussion with any scientist/professional chances are 99% that they will speak English, like how you don't really need to learn Hindu to speak with high-level Indians.

    As for Spanish and Portugese, i have no knowledge of this languages, but i can imagine situation being similar, somewhere between Spanish and Portugese and langue d'oc and langue d'oil.
