Post Which is the best genre of music ?

Personally I would go with classical music.

Classical music (I'm not talking only about the Classical era which spans from 1770 to 1820) is the synthesis of hundreds of years of musical innovations, influences from various cultural and historical eras and ultimately thousands of illustrious composers.

The complexity and the diversity of the classical music can't be matched by any other kind of genre certainly not modern but neither folklorical or regional music (like asiatic or african music).

The highness reached by pieces like the 3th Symphony of Beethoven Eroica is still something to be matched.

Operas can be either historical, poetical, mythical, Wagner has created long-lasting operatic pieces that can take 3 entire days to be performed.

Closer to us, Debussy and many others wrote profound and onirical pieces :

"Allobroges vaillants ! Dans vos vertes campagnes,
    Accordez-moi toujours asile et sűreté,
Car j'aime ŕ respirer l'air pur de vos montagnes,
Je suis la Liberté ! la Liberté !"

I don't think there is even a debate for reasoned minds however I don't know the opinions here.

Music isn't something "you feels", actually it can be described in a mathematical way. The juxtaposition of the several harmonies, the frequency of an instrument, his resonance ... all that contributes to what music convey ultimately and the complexity, the subtleness of what you hear.

There are clear standards that I've defined on my introductory post.

Not really it's all about what you feel. That's why there is sad music, hype music, regional music etc... Everybody has it own taste, I bet classical music is not very liked among this generation and younger.

    Rock music. Hands down.

You have classic rock, punk rock, grunge, alternative, indie, blues-rock, post-rock.
    The list goes on.
This genre has great instrumentals and the lyrics actually have substance and depth behind them.

Actually I think that after classical music the most interesting/complex music is the rock/metal genre (though I exclude some genres like pop-rock or soft rock that are like pop musically speaking) and I like it indeed.

Rock would be my second pick definitely. Rock musicians are those who work the most to master their instruments after classical.

There are also rock artists that had made "fusion" albums between rock and classical like Steve Vai and Frank Zappa. Some metal groups approach somewhat classical with their compositions.

I really like Reggae and Ska. Usually the songs that immediately appeal to me have syncopated rhythms.
