Though I checked Romanesque, I actually prefer "Richardson Romanesque", the "Gilded Age" style of masonry architecture, massive with short stout columns and Roman arches, favoured by Henry Hobson Richardson (1838-1886) .

Richardson built for the ages, and, indeed, many of his buildings dating from the 1870's and 1880's are still standing and in use. In fact, the only Richardson buildings which have been razed were wrecked at great cost and with great difficulty to make room for a more modern structure.

BTW, Richardson's friend, Louis Comfort Tiffany did the interiors of many of his fine buildings, partners in spirit for an age of elegance. Both, alas, have been forgotten and disdained in an age which glorifies starkness, utilitarianism, and ugliness.

I am a bit of a minimalist when it comes to Architecture, but I love the visual opulence of this style.
