It may simplify things a bit, but all in all it's correct, and it corresponds exactly with my conclusions on the subject. Not only the cost of living for many essential items seems much higher in the last decades, but we have become more wasteful in our consuming habits as well. And marketing strategies promote these habits. It's absolutely true that today advertisement generally doesn't provide useful, practical info, but tries to create meaningless emotional connections to induce consumers to buy stuff they don't need. I pointed this out already in a comment about the Renault 'lesbian' commercial. it doesn't really say anything about why we should choose their product instead of the competitors'. Showing a happy family, lesbian or otherwise, doesn't tell us if this Renault car is good or crappy, if it consumes less fuel than, say, a Volkswagen of the same class, or how long the chassis will last before falling to pieces. The video is also correct in pointing out that younger generations are more wasteful. This, among other things, gives the lie to Thunberg & C, who accuse the older generations of being responsible of climate change with their choices. Sorry Greta, but who is changing their smartphones every year because 'cooler' model comes out all the time, and who is flying all over the world for backpacking adventures? These young people may claim that they eschew traditional tourism in favor of 'alternate' cheap options, living for a few $ a day in shitty hostels and eating local food in some Third World country. But they don't exactly swim (or travel on sailing yachts...) to go there. They fly f*****g jet planes.

On the other side, one can say that these wasteful consuming habits contribute to economic growth. But who is benefiting most from it? The conclusion is that, maybe, there is something wrong with our global economic system...

The video sucked it as it does not even mention inflation but skirts around the topic.

1.) Inflation is a tax on the poor .

2.) For countries with large baby boomer populations, particularly, the US : Most of us will die poor. There is no way that systems devised to provide for mid-20th-century retirees will be able to cope in the mid-21st, with imploding demographics and a centenarian on every block. “Defined-contribution” pension plans will have to be baled out by the federal government, if private enterprise is to survive. The dollars we get from them will therefore be massively devalued. Since there is no one to bale out Social Security, benefits will soon be restricted to citizens more than 80 years old. Similarly for Medicare.

3.) As far as millenials being more socialist and supporting things like Obamacare : Quality health care for all is not possible. Quality health care is what rich people get. The rest of us must wait on line to be misdiagnosed by ill-trained, paperwork-swamped, litigation-shy doctors, assisted by nurses imported from the less hygienic parts of the Third World, and unionized hospital staff with no-way-you-can-get-me-fired attitudes. This could only change if the U.S.A. devoted its entire Gross National Product to health care; and even then, it probably wouldn’t stay changed for long.

The video only addressed some issues but how do your points contradict it?

Well, I disagree, I don't think it sucks, I'd say the video certainly has some value, but being on the popular youtube channel it was dumbed down for average Joe's. The comparison they made really shows how currencies have changed over the period of time. For instance, 25,000 USD in the 1960's would be an equivalent of 212,000 USD today's purchasing power, and another thing hidden behind the curtains is the way mortgage bond market works. Another thing that lacks is it doesn't show what affects the currency and how, but it shows how modern marketing strategies, combined with modern technology, warp our reality and make us take wrong choices regarding the way we will spend our money. But again, it only scratches the surface, and so it doesn't show how our privacy (which is by 1948's UN classified as a human right) is being denied whenever we visit a social media website/app. It doesn't show the whole pipeline, how social media companies allow our personal data to the marketing companies who use these information to sell them to the retailers and how its used to rig the prices and recommend us products we "want", and thus basically trade with our emotions, personality, needs...

true and when you think than the air and the water engine truelly exist, and than there is no climate change but extra solar activities, and a mini-icy period is coming for 21/23 to 33 ,than desaltinising the sea water is very simple, all is sound like an hoax nowadays
