2019: the year of mass departures from The Apricity

The most notable one, of course, was Sikeliot. However, we also lost Damiao de Gois, Sebastianus Rex, Sardinia Atlantis (albeit he was banned), Black Panther (also banned), Profileid (likewise), Isleno, Myanthropologies, brennus dux gallorum, B01AB20, Valedictorian, Petalpusher and Anglojew. In addition, the months leading up to 2019 saw the loss of other prominent posters like Hadouken (again banned), crazyladybutterfly and Zhaoyun. The forum is certainly the quietest I can remember it being since I joined myself in 2013. What are the chances that it could liven up again and that at least some of the aforementioned posters will come back?

Many of those posters I miss. I think Sikeliot is much maligned even though he did change many of his opinions with updated results. He wasn't just fixated and could be flexible depending on the evidence that was presented. I do miss him even if that might not be popular depending on your opinion of him. I had a soft spot for Petalpusher and Myanthropologies. I've often thought myself that I've been here far too long. So many posters that had similar interests to myself have moved on. We will all leave here eventually.

Yeah, Sikeliot was mostly quite a nice poster, just he became too obsessed with connecting Sicilians with Levantines on the one hand and Greeks with Slavs on the other.

My impression of the forum is that there is an ebb and flow to action and excitement. Some good debates, educational threads, good old fashioned drama and reality-tv-like entertainment, followed by slower, drier periods.

Also, inevitably it seems, some of the most interesting posters are also the most controversial, so they eventually get banned. And things slow down again..

That's weird that they were deleted, I remember seeing one of those threads it was simply pictures of of the city, no comments or anything right?

Forums just aren't a thing as much anymore, from what I gather.

Forums, in general, are in decay. Newspapers too, facebook has been substitued by instagram...everything that needs to be readen.

It´s not the time of the words, but of propaganda, and people knows this.

The ones that still come, do not make it to have a discussion of two different points of view and learning something new, but to vomit their propaganda.

For example this user always says the same and doesn´t aport nothing never. Second coment on your thread 10 minutes later of posting it:



I don´t know how was in the old times, but seems that this forum (as the society in general) has childified. At least in the Latin American or DNA sections there are some serious and interesting debates.

Reddit is thriving.
Newspapers are dying only because they're being replaced by online news websites.
