Default Why capitalism needs to be reset in 2020 | FT

The FT's Gillian Tett, Katie Martin and Andrew Hill outline the case for reinventing and reforming the model of free enterprise capitalism to deliver more profit with purpose and examine where opportunities for this change might lie in the year ahead

One thing the tyrant Lenin was actually right about all those years ago is that finance capitalism, which is essentially unproductive, would ultimately overtake productive/industrial capitalism, and that the masses would benefit far more from the latter than the former.

I'd like to see solar panels manufactured en masse in former mining villages here in South Wales - renewable energy will have to have a much bigger share of our energy output as we move away from fossil fuels, whether we like it or not. And I want to see the tidal lagoon built here in Swansea! (That said, one thing I seriously dissent from more 'mainstream' Green thought is over nuclear energy - it will have to play its part in the future too, if we are to balance environmental sustainability with continued prosperity and innovation).

Lastly, time to update our infrastructure, e.g. rail electrification and converting all designated A-roads into full dual carriageways. And a mass production programme for electric cars.

Everything has its own life span. Capitalism is already living out its old age, and in order to effectively restart it, it is necessary to roll back society (its mind, tech level, urbanization, everything) 125 years ago, during the youth and formation of capitalism. But this will again lead to world wars.
What will replace capitalism - I do not know. I hope that capitalism in its current form is not with us forever.

A book I seriously recommend is Ha Joon Chang's "Bad Samaritans", which explains that capitalism when combined with protectionism and significant State investment in research and infrastructure is what leads to long-term prosperity and innovation, not crude neoliberalism. The 'Bad Samaritans' being the (often downright hypocritical) promoters of neoliberalism.

I prefer socialist economic system. The capitalism is a straight road to modern slavery (loans), individualism, jewish banks and the total destruction, what we can see in West.

I am no fan of full-blown socialism (I prefer to nationalise the "commanding heights" (public utilities, natural resources, banking, insurance and finance, transportation, healthcare and heavy industry) and leave everything else to private industry (essentially the whole small and medium enterprise). But even that beats capitalism.

Your ancestors fought so hard against the reds to keep capitalism alive

Maybe the poles know the magic recipe, as they are wedged between the once capitalist fascists and socialist communists.
