It is true but that's how geopolitical strategy works out most of the time during warfare unfortunately. No one wants to show signs of weakness. At the time of the events (same day they bombed the American bases) openly admitting to have shot down a civilian plane would probably have escalated things. Allowing a few days to go by for "further investigation" when things have settled down a little bit after the initial havoc is what they might have had in mind from the beginning. Nevertheless, my point was that they surprisingly at least admitted it and are taking on the responsibility, something that isn't very common among autocratic nations. Six years have gone by since the MH17 incident and Russia is not taking any responsibility and probably never will.
