Greece is a mix of western and Balkan influences (maybe more western these days though). Greece is the most westernized country on the Balkans. Not only had it been under heavy English influence since 1821 (obvious in everything including architecture), the islands (especially) have been ruled by Venetians and knights for centuries and it shows. One has to visit Rhodes and he will find himself in a place similar to Malta (very catholic). Crete and the Ionian islands show heavy Venetian (Italian) medieval influence etc. As far as the other Balkan or orthodox states go, Greece is hands down the most western-like (excluding Croatia and Slovenia of course). Due to the long period of uninterrupted western influence, there is certain practicality in the buildings which is pleasant to see. You will not find the grand buildings you will see in Bucharest or Sofia from the communist (especially Stalin) time or the ugly communist blocks, but you will see buildings which are practical, ideal for the climate and similar to those you see in the Mediterranean states (especially Portugal).
Things change when you go north: Greece becomes more balkanic, but not in communist sense, but like more byzantinelike without much catholic influence. Thessaloniki (old byzantine buildings) looks a lot like the old byzantine buildings of Sofia.

I think you are grossly exaggerating the western and balkan influence a bit lol. Greece is indeed westernized or pseudo-westernized to a degree (it sucks only the aspects of western civilization such as smartassness or self-righteousness for selfish reasons but discards the logic and sane thinking-freethinking or scientific method) but not that much, it's predominantly an Anatolian-Arabo-esque Mediterranean country with little bit of Balkan influence mix but Greece clearly in fact is undeniably nothing akin to Yugoslavia, Albania and Romania, in fact the inhabitants arrogantly insult those countries as "shithole" and assumptiously think they are superior to them automatically.
