Default Tsai Ing-wen wins her second term as Taiwan’s president with most ever votes

Taiwanese president Tsai Ing-wen is re-elected as the top leader of Taiwan with over 8 million votes. This is the highest number of votes a Taiwanese Presidential election candidate has ever received.Tsai, of the independence-leaning Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has won a second term over Kaohsiung mayor Han Kuo-yu of the mainland-friendly Kuomintang (KMT) party and the perennial presidential contender James Soong Chu-yu, founder and chairman of the People First Party.Election campaigning had focused on issues such as sovereignty, democracy and cross-strait issues between Taipei and Beijing – all of which have been amplified by Hong Kong’s anti-government protests which have resisted Chinese mainland influence. Beijing considers self-ruled Taiwan to be part of its sovereign territory.

Taiwan’s incumbent leader Tsai Ing-wen has won the presidential election, defeating her Beijing-friendly rival Han Kuo-yu by a wide margin. https://www.hongkongfp.com/2020/01/11...

It's quite obvious that the Chinese are very capable in being on par with the civilized west if they had abandoned the one-party rule communist system in China and Taiwan is proof of that along with Singapore and Hong Kong.

And Macau. I wonder what China would be like if they were to take that path. A United States of China (as was already one of the principles of the Republic of China)

Ah, had the nationalists won the war against the commies in China then the country would have been a lot more better. Sad.

They were corrupt and dictatorial as well by that point but I am sure they would have turned out to be just like Taiwan by the 1970s, 1980s. I'd say that "China's century" probably would have started a lot sooner - kickstarted by American, Japanese and European investments since the USC/ROC would have been a strong ally for the West.

But wouldn't the Nationalist make China into a US puppet state? A military power as strong as today's China would not be allowed by the US, since they kept in the rein of post-1945 Japan and South Korea. The US want allies they can control.

They wouldn't have been able to control China so well. But communism probably would have collapsed by the 1950s with the death of Stalin and its defeat in the Korean War (after all: a Chinese intervention on the side of the UN would have meant game over for the Norks).

Not exactly. Nationalism these days have an Orwellian take into it which is why the neocons managed to hijack the conservative movement of America and etc into a Zionist globalist movement disguising itself as a nationalist and conservative ideology which isn't. Nick Griffin for example is considered as a true nationalist since he takes paleoconservative values of the western world very seriously which the media itself attacked him relentlessly since he doesn't bow down to the US and the Zionist elite of the west. Now, you have people like Boris Johnson - a self described conservative - telling the Brits to bow their head to the Americans and give them whatever they want no matter the cost which is the opposite on what true nationalism is all about. George Orwell understand these kind of states of politics and governments in his book, 1984, and yes, Orwellian version of totalitarianism is worse than what you see in today's China and North Korea.

I was the about the political party that controlled China (the Kuomintang). The situation in East Asia is different from the West.

For the first twenty years ? Potentially, yes. But like in real life, people would get tired of the KMT, revolt and move towards a hybrid Chinese/Western democracy (like Taiwan has now).
