Latinos (plural accusative of Latinus) = inhabitants of Latium, Latin speakers, Roman citizens

Latinos (Spanish, Portuguese, Sardinian) = same as above
Llatins (Catalan) = same as above
Latins (French) = same as above
Latini (Italian, Romanian) = same as above

Yes but Latin is a language group. Why call a whole continent of people from many different backgrounds Latino? That's just something that the US did. People that have quite different racial backgrounds all called Latino. Also why are people in the US that have been there a few generations still called Latino? Some of them don't even speak any Latin languages. In Europe where the Latin languages originate people don't label all Latin speakers Latin. Imagine putting French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian people all under the umbrella of Latin. It doesn't really make much sense.

They are language groups. In that article they are using Latin for an Italian but it is not common usage in Europe to label all these populations under the umbrella of Latin. People will call them Italian, Spanish etc. I'm sure Europeans will clarify this.

In the U.S., historically, as you know, we have had a very strict and idiosyncratic (i.e., "wrong") view as what counts as "white." Everything kind of derives from that. French would not be considered Latinos in the U.S.,nor would Italians or Romanians. Most people would not say Spaniards or Portuguese are Latinos, but some ignorant people would honestly, as stupid as that sounds.

It's the same as Arab. Useless umbrella terms. Latino is not a race.
