Those publications were obviously trying to deflect, to prove there was no racial bias for the nominations. But to use Antonio? Really? Its laughable.
As for the racial bias: why should there be a black quota each year if there is no great movie where the leads are black? Last year Green book swept the Oscars deservingly... Mahershala Ali also won absolutely as he should have been. But this year: first its a relatively weak year and I could think really of 2-3 movies that made an impact (at least on me): Joker, One Upon A Time ...in Hollywood and the Two Popes... Well all those movies were centered around white cast and deservingly are nominated. By the way, Joaquin Phoenix would get the Oscar for Joker! I m sure!

Quite absurdic
BUT I guess being "coloured" in the modern US = more profitable.
More profits = higher quality of life
Higher quality of Life = better future for children.

That I don;t know. Yes, Phoenix should get an Oscar for his amazing acting skills for the Joker. The one in Suicide Squad back in 2016 was really bad. Well, many of these Americans think that skin color is race even though race is more than just skin color since I have White skin and racially Caucasoid but not European or White. Antonio just has olive complexion which is not surprising given his origins and all, but then again, the archetype of a White person in America is always someone who looks racially Nordic or something.

I bet Antonio Banderas doesn't give a fuck if he is being labeled white or colored, most people don't care.
