They mostly talk about Attila and how he conquered the Roman and Germanic lands.

My dad is a history teacher so I was blessed to be taught everything in detail at school about the migration period. And I am very thankful about it because without it the Slavs wouldn’t come to Central Europe and absorb the remaining ethnicities (Goths, Celts etc). Which would mean that my family, friends and most people I know wouldn’t be alive now.

I’m extremely thankful to all Slavs, Balts and Germanics who made love in the right moment so that I and many others could be in this forum now and enjoy

I studied in a hungarian high school, the role of huns and germanic tribes were basically negative in the hungarian history books, just like the fall of Roman Empire.

I see no factual difference between Barbarian Invasions and Migration Period, except for that some migrations were within the Barbaricum and thus no Barbarian invasions. I was in school in Sweden only and iirc there was essentially told what happened without much labelling it.

It's very unclear to what extent the migrations contributed to this except for in the late area of Longobards and Gepids in Hungary, Romania and Slavonia in 568 AD.

I don't really buy that Eastern Germania magna was mostly emptied by migrations as it makes no sense to leave the most fertile areas if you own them and can not expect to find anything better. No one leaving Eastern Germania magna could expect to directly come into something better, except for Germanics from Bohemia (later Bavarians) that could directly enter former areas of the Roman Empire south of the Danube. Vandals, Burgundians and Goths made horrible odyssees and none of them found any good place to be directly after leaving Eastern Germania magna. The fertile areas of Eastern Germania magna had been continously inhabited since Stone Age.

Nevertheless a very pronounced emptying had occured.

To my convition this was predominantly caused by the Justinianic plaque https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plague_of_Justinian from 541-549 AD which hit the Germanics hard while the Slavs for whatever reason were obviously essentially not affected. I suspect that immunological genetics played a role and that Slavs (pre Slavs) that had lived more in the east than had Germanics for long periods of time had come more into contact with plague and developed some kind of relative immunity while Germanics died to an apocalyptic extent. When the plague returned at abt. 1350 AD the populations with a high proportion of proto Slavs - now also the Eastern Germans - again were spared from most casualties, see pic.

However, Eastern Germania magna was beyond the scope of Roman historians so there's nothing recorded.

When I grew up in Venezuela, they thought me in school they were a series of Barbarian invasions (everything starting with the Huns, causing some peoples pushing other peoples in a domino effect), that happened as a matter of successive waves (Ostrogoths, Visigoths, Vandals, Swabians, etc) that gradually ended up with the fall of the Roman empire.
