Up to a point I agree with you actually. Although most White and Black Americans are monolingual, Hispanics and Asians between them are around a fifth of the US population, and most do maintain their ancestral languages.

My annoyance about this whole thing is having lived in the UK for over a year... NO ONE speaks a foreign language or even bothers to try to pronounce well-known French or Spanish words... not even the Upper Class... France is a damn train ride from London and every damn Brit holidays in Spain but God forbid they learn a word or two... and they joke around about how crazy foreign languages are...

At least some Russians and Japanese speak English...

Because to suggest that Spics make up a majority of the population in New England, Pennsylvania, or the Midwest is simply wrong. In all of the Southern States except Texas too, there's a huge number of blacks but "hispanics" are a small minority in most places.

That's just not true. Outside of the South, the only place I know of that doesn't have large populations of Hispanics might be northern Wisconsin.

But I'm including all Americans of foreign-language immigrant backgrounds anyway. Big cities make up the majority of the US population anyway, so it barely matters. It's just a stereotype about Americans not speaking foreign languages, that may have been true in the 1960s, but certainly isn't now, is all I'm saying.

North Florida is a typical Southern state while the south really is filled with spics. New York is a mongrel dystopia and New Jersey is the same on a lesser scale. Illinois is around 60% non-hispanic white.

Depends on how you define a large population. In most states it isn't near 50%, it's usually 10-20%. That's enough to be a highly visible population, but not near a majority.
