The first x-ray microtomography images of the new Brazilian electron accelerator, the Sirius Project, were generated at the National Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) last week (16 and 17). The center's team has already carried out the first analyzes, using x-rays, of two samples: a rock with the same formation as the pre-salt and another of the heart of a mouse.

Sirius is the only particle accelerator of this size in Latin America and the second in the world, according to CNPEM, and has already attracted interest from researchers in neighboring countries. “These were the first images taken with this new machine, so it is an important milestone in the project because we can prove that the machine is working well. It was entirely designed and assembled here in Brazil, ”said Nathaly Archilha, a researcher who leads the first analyzes.
