Definitely should be legalized. There are two types of drugs : 1.) anti-intellectual drugs that give you euphoria and 2.) psychedelics that expand your mind or give you different perspectives on reality that smart people tend to take. The first class you can be addicted to but you really can't get addicted to psychedelics those that say you can become mentally dependent on psychedelics have no idea what they are talking about.

No need to get overly poetic about it. Those are the ones which just fuck with your basic neural functions the most. Our perception of reality is just fine - four billion years of evolution did make sure.

We perceive things through a scaffolding of three-dimensional space, in a tense of past-present-future, and within a framework of casual connections. As an 18th century philosopher would not have known, but 20th century physics has confirmed, these constructs are not even a component of the world that we can describe mathematically and measure with special instruments. Newtonian concepts of space and time do not apply to the macro world of special and general relativity or to the micro world of quantum mechanics. Anyway , it is easy to see what drugs should be legalized and which should not be. There are no hookers selling their ass on the street corner for LSD/Shrrooms but they are selling it for crack cocaine and heroin.

A government that can't do something as basic as keeping the streets safe and closing the budget should be in control of what people consume in a private setting ?
I am against drugs but let's ask ourselves this question.

I'm not saying our perception of the universe is perfect (that's why I've used the expression 'just fine'), in whatever sense, but its demonstrably accurate to a high degree - we're actually really good in making predictions about the physical world - if we were not, we wouldn't have even the very basics of science. I prefer materialistic approach in here - since it was once preferable for our ancestors to undestand their environment, they've developed neural system, which enabled them to do so - by means of gradual natural selection. And the other pressures took it from there, leading to a relatively good processing system. The category of drugs in question numbs it more than any other one. Be assured, that I'd be way more confident sending a paper to publish written on meth rather than on LSD. And sure, we can't reach microcosmos intuitively, as there were no selection pressures to do so. But it's still at least somewhat concievable, since, again, theoretical physics wouldn't otherwise exist. In any case though, acid doesn't help any issue here.
