There is no such thing as an 'American' I was always English. An Italian in the USA is Italian, a Scot in America is a Scot , an Englishman in America is an Englishman etc...

America gave them more hope of land and a future. Ulster Scots were mostly the displaced and had fled famines. The Border Scots(large part of original plantation) were constantly on the front line of Scottish-English wars and lawless clan wars. The original plantation cleared the population in the Scottish-English border that could have distablised the idea of a future United Kingdom.



Take away the land from the Gaelic O'Neils and stick in tribal fighting non-Gaelic lowland scots, what's the worst that can happen?
