Funny, just 3 days ago I watched a video featuring all artists ranking #1 in the world from 1950 to 2020. That's how I discovered this guy Drake existed, because he's been #1 world wide for a couple of years now.

What shocked me is I had never heard of him before, even the name was unfamiliar. I googled him to see who he was, found out he's been in the music scene for a while. As Uruguayan I had absolutely no idea who he was. Rap is not a thing in Uruguay, maybe that's why.

I feel like the majority of folks posting on here are not that much into American Hip Hop/Urban music. Perhaps most like reggaeton since it's pretty big in Latin American right now. Mainstream rock is mad dead these days so I'm not expecting them to be rockeros like it was more commonly seen back in the day. Unless they actually listen to underground or some shit.

I personally like all types of music. When I was a teenager I was more into rock/alternative. I am sorta starting missing those days. Matter of fact I've been listening to the Smashing Pumpkins lately. Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were good albums.

Same. In college, I played in a band and joined a Soundcloud rap group at the same time. I'm into everything and am currently into chilled electronic music and 90's R&B more than anything else at the moment.

I was just curious how big Drake's global impact is because his songs like One Dance and God's Plan literally broke streaming records across the world. I would think Drake in 2018 was as big in Latin America as Luis Fonsi was here in the U.S. when Despacito came out.

The sound from the late 90s and even the mid 90s was totally different from the one from the late part of the decade. Back in the day music used to evolve more rapidly compared to more recent times. There was more competition too although nothing compared to the 80s and 70s when the market was at its peak.

I feel like the new streaming rules in Billboard are running the charts. Now is more easy for mediocre songs to get gold and platinum certifications.
