Neither Greeks are Italians yet Eastern Roman Empire continued to exist long after Odoacer, Ricimer, Gundobad etc.. conquered Western part of Roman Empire.

You modern Italians know very little about Balkans for some reason, Balkan people are more related to Italians than French or British for example.

I said Serbian in the context of modern Serbia like "Serbian" meaning "from the land of modern Serbia".

Serbian identity was formed after Romans/Gauls/Celts mixed with Kievan Rus' like people.

The Italians taught almost everything to the French.. and French, subsequently, taught almost everything to the English... and as far as I'm concerned there are no sources that confirm that we Italians have had some interest in the Balkan peoples.( after the fall of West Roman Empire )
Venice had brought its culture to Crozia .. but without arriving inside the peninsula ... Perhaps it is for this reason that the Balkan peninsula has always been seen as a primitive area with little culture ..under the thumbs of muslims people..

During ancient time it was different.. east side of the empire ( Balkan Turkey Middle east Mesopotamia Egypt ) was the center of culture and production
