The coronavirus continues its spread through China and surrounding Asian countries. The data increasingly show that this virus is wickedly contagious, especially in crowded environments where population density is high -- like the densely-packed buildings in cities. As a frightening example: in Japan, a health worker was infected while inspecting a quarantined cruise ship, despite wearing a hazmat suit and taking standard precautions. On the more positive side, we are hearing "success" stories from those who have now recovered from the virus. These are mostly folks who had less serious cases, which is around 80% of those infected. But, on the more concerning side, evidence is showing that those who recover may not have immunity from catching the virus again. And, that a second infection could potentially result in a much more serious threat to life. As usual, we still need more detail before drawing hard conclusions. There are many elements still unknown about this virus -- such as why the rate of spread appears much lower outside of China than within. We remain committed to scouring the news and science wires until we have the answers. Stay tuned. We'll share more as we learn of it.

Finally, some good news? While the coronavirus continues its spread throughout China and elsewhere in the world (we now have the first confirmed case in Africa), we are hearing about an encouraging development on the treatment front. Chinese hospitals are reporting success treating severely sick patients with the blood plasma of those who have recently recovered. At least 11 patients treated this way went from 'critically ill' to much improved in just 24 hours. This is not an uncommon form of treatment, so it's a process the medical establishment knows how to successfully replicate. The big questions now are: Can this success be dependably replicated? Can it be done so at scale? How quickly can this be ramped up? And how big an impact can this make in world governments' efforts to contain covid-19? Right now, we have very little to go by. But this is the first glimmer of positive news we've heard yet. As we learn more about this potential way to reduce fatalities from the virus, we'll immediately update you. Now... Then WATCH UPDATE #21 HERE: https://youtu.be/01L-SktgzXc While China is ground zero for this epidemic, Japan is now experiencing a bloom of coronavirus cases. With nearly 40 known people now infected, Japanese officials fear that a 'silent outbreak' is underway and that many more people are catching and spreading the disease. Most of the new cases are of people with no connection to China, signaling that the virus has now gained a foothold in the local population. In other breaking news, not only does it seem that it's possible to contract the virus more than once, but if you do, the second time can be far deadlier. Chris dives deep into the science of the how covid-19 attacks your cells (through the ACE2 receptors) and can ultimately lead not only to pneumonia, but heart failure. As we keep repeating: this is one virus you do NOT want to catch, if at all possible. Now... Then WATCH UPDATE #15 HERE: https://youtu.be/jbvibANxARg As China now has placed over 400 million of its citizens under quarantine, China's economy is grinding to a halt. Workers can't leave their homes. Factories are idle. Most (if not all) of China's ports are no longer shipping. International flights are increasingly banned from the country. When the world's #2 economy hangs up a big "CLOSED" sign, that's going to result in a major negative impact on global trade. As the manufacturing powerhouse to the world, you'll be challenged to think of ANY industry that won't experience serious supply chain interruptions and shortages from China's woes. Did you know China makes the vast majority of our prescription pharmaceuticals? A MASSIVE hit to the global economy will directly result from the damage the coronavirus is currently doing. And it may get worse, a lot worse. So ignore today's ridiculous all-time high stock prices. They can't last in the face of what's coming. BE SURE TO READ Chris' latest free report "Why Covid-19 Demands Our Full Attention" here: https://www.peakprosperity.com/why-co... Then WATCH UPDATE #23 HERE: https://youtu.be/KWJHXTnodS0 Good updates on the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic (aka covid-19) are becoming harder to obtain as governments tighten their grip on news sources. The data being shared, particularly by the Chinese are increasingly hard to believe, as they don't match the massive response the government is undertaking. Likewise, outside of China, reported cases remain lower than we would expect given the powerful R0 (i.e., infectiousness) of the virus, as well as its long asymptomatic incubation period. Are we being intentionally kept in the dark? Quite possibly. Chris walks through the possible reasons why, and points to the stock markets as a prime example of disinformation. They're currently being used to send an "everything is fine" signal, while in reality, the global economy is taking multiple gut punches from the disruption of the many supply chains dependent on China's (currently quarantined) workers. Is this current period of puzzling silence from officials the calm before the storm? Now... On Feb. 12, Hubei health authorities announced an additional 14,840 cases of the coronavirus. It marks the largest single-day rise since the epidemic began and is almost 10 times the number of added cases from the day before. Health authorities said the spike was due to the inclusion of “clinically diagnosed cases” in Hubei. Others suspect the true reason is because of a recent change in top leadership in Hubei province and Wuhan city, as these two Xi Jinping appointees seek to avoid taking responsibility for their predecessors’ incompetence and concealment of the epidemic. To decode these events, Zooming In did a thorough case study of one of China’s most popular media outlet’s coverage of the coronavirus epidemic. We also did a preliminary calculation of the infected population and death toll in Wuhan based on an exclusive investigation by the Epoch Media Group into one of Wuhan’s funeral homes. From there, we will explore the truth of the epidemic, how Chinese leadership view it, their plan going forward and most importantly, what it means for you if the epidemic in China is 10 times worse than reported. - Subscribe for updates: http:///SimoneGao - ©️ All rights reserved.

BE SURE TO READ Chris' latest free report "Why Covid-19 Demands Our Full Attention" here: https://www.peakprosperity.com/why-co... Then WATCH UPDATE #24 HERE: https://youtu.be/ReMCn4GsviM While China remains largely in lockdown, covid-19 cases in the rest of the world are at a key juncture. To-date, confirmed cases have been lower than feared. Though increasingly, we're suspecting that's due to inadequate testing & reporting. And the cases we *do* know of (now at ~1,000) appear to be growing at an exponential rate. So the next two weeks will be critical in telling the tale. We'll soon know whether the spread is indeed slower than initially feared, or we'll start to see huge increases in the number of infected ex-China. Meanwhile, the authorities around the world, including the WHO and CDC, continue to downplay the threat. But at the same time, governments are busy mobilizing massive containment efforts. Their words do not match their actions. Is there more we're not being told? As we've said, time will soon tell. Keep up your efforts to remain informed, as good information is scarce right now. The coronavirus outbreak has been a severe challenge for many businesses in China, but for online shopping it has led to a huge spike in sales in recent few weeks. Millions of consumers are choosing to order fresh food online so they can cook at home rather than risk trips to shopping centres or restaurants. But the sales surge means delivery workers are also busier and facing a greater risk of exposure to infection as they make deliveries in communities under lockdown.
Fucking idiots ! Nobody is wearing any masks or goggles:

A Russian court on February 17, 2020, ordered a 32-year-old woman to return to a hospital in St Petersburg after she escaped from a coronavirus quarantine at the facility. Alla Ilyina said she was upset with arrangements and conditions in the isolation room, before she short-circuited an electronic lock and fled on February 7.

A trip from Hong Kong to Seoul takes an unexpected turn when QuickTake's Stella Ko ended up in coronavirus quarantine: I had just stepped off the plane at Seoul’s Incheon International Airport, and this wasn’t what I’d expected. For weeks I’d been covering the coronavirus outbreak for Bloomberg News in Hong Kong. My trip to South Korea on Saturday was meant to be uneventful: I’d visit my parents and stock up on supplies of hand sanitizer and other basics that were tough to find in Hong Kong. That was the plan, at least, until the quarantine officer -- decked out in head-to-toe protective gear -- pointed the temperature gun at my forehead. The next 24 hours would give me a newfound appreciation for the extraordinary efforts underway to contain the virus and the emotional toll felt by those who’ve been marked as its next potential victims. The officer struck a worried tone as she read out my temperature: 37.5 degrees Celsius (99.5 degrees Fahrenheit). “We need you to sit back here and check your temperature again in 10 minutes,” she said. The 2nd reading: 37.5 degrees Celsius. “I’m sorry, but you’re going to have to meet with a doctor,” she said. My fellow passengers watched as I was escorted around the corner to a temporary doctor’s office. I had been called out as potentially contaminated, a threat to public health. A group of tourists gawked as they passed by. The doctor interviewed me and a few others 1 by 1, before telling us that we’d all be held in a nearby facility until our test results came back. I called my mom, trying to sound calm: “I don’t want you to freak out, but I’m not going to be able to come home tonight,” I said. I could hear her struggling to keep her composure, but we agreed it was for the best. My dad has cancer and the last thing I wanted was to give him the virus. I promised mom I’d be fine and hung up. That’s when I met Irma, who had traveled to Seoul from Hong Kong for a holiday. Her mom was on the other side of the office partition. They didn’t speak much English or Korean, so I helped them convince one of the officers to allow Irma’s mom to take her daughter’s luggage. He eventually agreed. We waited 4 hours before being escorted to an ambulance, which took us to a temporary quarantine facility inside the airport. It was nice having Irma next to me. I knew nothing about her, but her presence made me feel less alone. As a doctor checked us into our rooms, he explained what would happen over the next few hours (mostly temperature checks and sample collections). The most important rule: “Do not come out until we say you can.” “Bye Irma,” I said. “Hopefully we don’t have it.” She smiled. I wondered if I’d ever see her again. After about 30 minutes, dinner arrived in a plastic container. It was a pleasant surprise: rice with fried egg, bulgogi, stir-fried kimchi, quail eggs with soy sauce, pickled vegetables, deep fried shrimp and chicken, a beef patty and potato salad. Several hours later a doctor took my temperature, collected a cough sample and scraped mucus from inside my nose. He had kind eyes, which was all I could see through his full body suit. Exhausted, I fell asleep. I dreamed of taking my temperature -- over and over and over again. When I awoke 3 hours later, I relieved bouts of anxiety by watching puppy videos on my phone, writing, taking cold showers and constantly checking my temperature, which had fallen back into a normal range between 36.6 and 37.2 degrees Celsius. The quarantine had made me obsessed with decimals. When my test results finally arrived -- no trace of the coronavirus -- I had to fight back tears of relief. I left the facility with several others, including Irma. We each had a certificate from the Ministry of Health and Welfare declaring us virus free. We were the lucky ones. The outbreak has infected more than 71,000 people globally and killed 1,775, almost all of them in China. Millions of people in cities like Wuhan have been on lockdown in their homes or government facilities for weeks. While some health experts are hopeful the pace of new cases may soon peak, the risk of a worsening epidemic can’t be ruled out. Many of those who get infected don’t show symptoms. Before my quarantine, I didn’t fully appreciate how quickly and completely people can be stigmatized at a time like this. Now I know that behind the virus case numbers we all check every morning is a person like me who probably feels scared, isolated and in need of a little compassion.

The number of new coronavirus cases in China appears to have declined, according to a study released by the nation’s health authorities. The figures said 1,886 new coronavirus cases and 98 deaths were reported on the mainland, lifting totals to 72,436 and 1,868,respectively, as of midnight on February 17, 2020.But the World Health Organisation (WHO) urged caution over the apparent slowdown, saying it is “too early” to say if the downward trend will continue.(Photo: Chinatopix via AP)

Though the coronavirus that originated from Wuhan, China has a lower fatality rate than SARS, it has proved far more contagious. With an incubation of 14 days and evidence that COVID-19 can be passed on by asymptomatic individuals, experts say that the actual number of infected persons could be a lot more than what is being recorded. Dr Leong Hoe Nam, who was infected with the SARS virus back in 2003, puts the estimate at 40 times the official statistics and said that the lockdown on cities in Hubei, while it may seem heartless, is the right move to take.

A man from eastern China’s Jiangsu province was filmed dancing enthusiastically at his doorstep, celebrating the end of his 14-day self-quarantine. He commemorated it by going for a run and playing football.

A woman living in Guangzhou found a golden retriever had been locked in her neighbour’s flat for six days. In order to keep the dog fed, she delivered food and water to it with a pole.

"Did coronavirus originate in Chinese government laboratory? Scientists believe killer disease may have begun in research facility 300 yards from Wuhan wet fish market "Beijing-sponsored South China University of Technology concludes that 'the killer coronavirus probably originated from a laboratory in Wuhan "It points to research on bats and respiratory diseases carried by the animals at the Wuhan Center for Disease Control and the Wuhan Institute of Virology "WCDC is just 300 yards from the seafood market and is adjacent to the hospital..." Stefan Molyneux of Freedomain updates you on the latest news on this radical new health threat. Is it time to panic?
I am terribly sorry for them but keep them the fuck there:

A British couple on board the Diamond Princess, the quarantined cruise ship in Japan, where hundreds of people have come down with coronavirus - have told their son that they have both tested positive for the virus. David and Sally Abel have been pleading with the UK government to fly them home. The Foreign Office says it is working to organise a flight.

Brighton, home to the UK's first cluster of Coronavirus cases, is feeling the pressure. With schools, doctors surgeries and individual residents taking precautions - there are many urgent questions swirling. How deadly is it? How fast can it spread? What are the best precautions? Will we end up responding to it the way China has done? And how prepared are we in Britain? In an exclusive survey for tonight's special programme on the response to the emerging cases in the UK, 'Coronavirus: Is Britain Ready?' Channel 4 News carried out an exclusive survey of over 500 front-line health workers.

Chinese scientists says COVID-19/coronavirus could have originated from government testing lab in Wuhan 중국•영국언론 "코로나19, 수산시장 아닌 실험실 유출 가능성" As the world struggles to contain the new virus,... a new speculation from the Chinese scientists,... who believe it may have originated at a research facility not far from the Wuhan fish market. While they say more research needs to be done to find solid proof,... such labs are known to contain disease-ridden animals, including hundreds of bats. Kim Hyo-sun tells us more. Amid the continued spread of the COVID-19 virus,... there's rising speculation the virus could have originated from a government laboratory in Wuhan rather than the widely-held belief that it emerged from the city's Huanan seafood markets. Citing a report published by Chinese scientists,... a Chinese-language newspaper published in Hong Kong, Ming Pao, and the British daily, The Mirror explained Sunday that the Wuhan Center for Disease Control, or WHCDC, could have spawned the contagion in Hubei Province. According to the report penned by Botao Xiao and Lei Xiao of the South China University of Technology,... the research lab, which is only 280 meters away from the Huanan seafood market,... kept disease-ridden animals including more than 600 bats. It stated that while it's plausible the virus was leaked from the lab and contaminated initial patients in this epidemic,... more solid evidence is required through future study. The report also raised the possibility that the Wuhan Institute of Virology could have leaked the virus while it was carrying out tests involving Chinese horseshoe bats. Against such a background,... an article published by the Washington Times late last month is garnering attention, as it raised the possibility that the disastrous outbreak could be the accidental result of biological weapons research. This comes as a renowned law professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing, Xu Zhangrun, is known to be missing after publicly condemning Chinese President Xi Jinping for failing to contain the spread of the virus at an early stage. He even added the condemnation could be the last message of his life. Kim Hyo-sun, Arirang News.

Feb.16 -- China said the death toll from the coronavirus rose to 1,770, while the province at the epicenter of the outbreak reported 1,933 new cases. Meanwhile, Hong Kong is facing “tsunami-like” shocks, and may incur a record budget deficit in the next fiscal year as the city counts the costs of the coronavirus outbreak after months of social unrest, Financial Secretary Paul Chan said. Tom Mackenzie and Yvonne Man report on "Bloomberg Markets: China Open."

An 80-year-old Chinese tourist has become Europe's first coronavirus fatality. The pensioner from Hubei province was taken ill three weeks ago while on holiday in France, and died yesterday. Here, all but one of the nine patients in the UK to have tested positive for the virus have been released from hospital. The Health Secretary said it was evidence that the NHS is "well-prepared" to deal with the virus. But a survey of NHS staff by this programme shows that many are concerned about the lack of capacity.

As the Covid-19 outbreak continues to spread around the world, places of worship across Asia are trying to deal with the pressure the illness is putting on their congregations.

China’s central province of Hubei, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, has implemented tough travel restrictions. The new rules imposed on February 16, 2020, apply to the province’s entire population of 58 million and restricts all people from leaving their residential communities or villages. Hubei has seen the majority of the over 1,600 deaths worldwide from Covid-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus. Full story: https://sc.mp/86d39

Hey Laowinners! Today I would l like to talk about how my experience living in China for over 10 years, measures from top down leadership are often praised by the rest of the world for being swift, and effective. China's culture of Guanxi, or connections, and messy and often arbitrary enforcement of law means that these measures simply only work on paper.

The world is now watching closely to see if the coronavirus is indeed poised to accelerate outside of China. In yesterday's video, we warned that the coming two weeks will be crucial in determining how bad the pandemic will be. The early results are not encouraging. New cases continue to climb in the rest of Asia -- Japan, Korea and Singapore are being hit hardest. And now we have the first two cases (and two deaths!) reported in Iran. That's on top of last week's confirmed case in Africa. So now the virus is on every continent save Antarctica.
