Estoy tan acostumbrado a ver entrar gente cometiendo el error garrafal de poner a la ascendencia alemana al mismo punto que la italiana y ambos superando a la española que me desespero.

Is Italian ancestry overstated in Argentina, kinda like German ancestry here in the US?

Is that overstated in the US the german ancestry??? I ask because I am not very familiar with that issue...

The answer is yes. Happens exactly the same than in the USA.

But the spanish ancestry is more diluted between mestizos-castizos of colonial origin than italian one, and these ones are not consideared spanish, but another different thing. Basically a big part of the spanish ancestry in Argentina is not taken into account, but even most (if not all) of the people with italian ancestry has a noticeable spanish ancestry.

But if there´s a king of overestimated ancestry in Argentina (and Brazil too) is the german one, like in the USA.

The ancestry is overestimated because it is based on the surname for non-Iberian immigrants.

Yes. People in the US tend to overestimate their German ancestry and underestimate their British ancestry.

You can aply the same with italian ancestry in Argentina. Spaniard ancestry is bigger by far but it is underestimated while italian is overestimated.

In my opinion the overestimated is the german in my opinion but the italian is very important.
Of course not as the spanish one.
I think that probably is thus:

English = USA ===》 Spanish = Argentina
Irísh = USA =====》 Italian = Argentina

German is insignificant comparing with the two most important.
Even french was more important.
But both compared to Spanish and Italian are extremely short.
