    Well, there is something called as atavism.
    For an example, the first guy in that thread( in the link below) looks almost like a fully neanderthal.
    His son, for an instance don't look much like his father and also don't look very neanderthaloid but it could certaibly be explained by the age gap:

    I put on average in the title for a reason. I'm well aware that individuals can look nothing like their background.

    Nevertheless, people tend to look like their genetic profile, and you can even identify national looks based on this.
