Yes, but F-35 is simply not classical air-superiority fighter. When comes to this category it has weaker characteristics than other up-to-date fighters from the same category. The thing is Lockheed Martin always planned F-22 to be the kind of air-superiority fighter that would be the top of its class.

True, but the F-35 offers air superiority compared to 95% of the airframes in service today. It's a multi-use platform, similar to the Navy F-18 that can kill most enemy planes before they know its even though. The sophisticated avionics is the big difference between the F-35 and other jets
