I exclude Germany from the list of potential leaders because it, simply, has too much of a history to see itself as leading Europe. The press barely needs to mention the war and Germans break out in tears again and grovel before the rest of the world. In other words: Germany gave up its own natural position. The only one that remains to fill that chair, for better or for worse, is France. A lot can be said about the French but they, unlike the Germans, don't take their orders from Washington. The French actually told the Americans to vacate the premise and gtfo once.. The Germans never gathered even a bit of that courage.

It's not even about leading a European federation but about being the most pre-eminent power in Europe. The French have their cultural and intellectual clout, they have the economy, they have the military (including nuclear weapons), they have bases all over the world. Germany has none of that - apart from the economy. There were only two countries that had this and one just turned its back on the Mainland.

Im not ware of any positive economic forecast in regards to France.
They have a very outdated manufacturing economy and constantly fail the reduce the spending or optimize of the welfare state.
Centralization is another factor that is crippling France and the political instability.

Teutone - as always lacks realism - and thinks that shit posting is worth anything. Germany abdicated the position of pre-eminent power on 8 May 1945 and has never taken it up again. Even now, after reunification, they have never taken their responsibility. Germany was a major power. Had Germany not elected Hitler in 1933 and gone to war in 1939 - it would probably still have been a major power today.
