According to Northeasterners I discussed in some genealogy groups there was heavy endogamy between some groups in rural Northeastern society, so that may explain why Northwestern European genes can be found there in a substantial amount even after some many centuries. I also think that many Dutch fled to the countryside and assimilated to some families there, families who were mostly marrying among themselves and people of similar background, there are many cases of families in Northeast with known non-Iberian European ancestors or patriarchs.
Like the Cavalcanti, Doria, Wanderley (Van der Ley) etc. I still think the most ''Iberian'' states of Brazil genetically are Rio and Minas, even if they received some post-independence non-Iberian European immigration.
