We are a small indie studio from Perm, Russia. Our projects are mythology and ethnic-based with the narrative and worlds supported by historical facts and folklore. Our first project The Mooseman was released in 2017 on Steam, and in 2018 on Appstore, Google Play, and modern consoles. We are working now on a new game called Black Book.

The name of the studio comes from wordplay of "Mort", which is French for "dead" and Komi for "a man", and "Matryoshka", the famous Russian doll. Our team currently consists of five people.

Mooseman

Embark on a journey through all the worlds of ancient myth, find artefacts of Chud' tribes and solve all the mysteries of Finno-Ugric tales. You are the Mooseman and you have the ability to see all that is hidden to the mortal eye. You are about to visit three layers of this universe - the first one is the Lower World where ancient spirits dwell.

Ethnic Foundation: Visual style of the game is inspired by Permian bronze casts. Artefacts of Permian bonze casts (also called Perm animal style) depict strange mythological creatures (one of which bears name Mooseman) and ancient gods of creators of these artefacts - finno-ugric tribes of Ural. Player can collect these artefacts in the game and read a historical note that was written with help by Perm Historical Museum. Most of the artefacts can be found in museums of Perm Krai.

Game narrative is an adaptation of Komi-Permian, Komi-Zyrian and Saamic myth. Game story is heavily inspired by scientific research of Finno-Ugric mythologies by Vladimir Charnolussky, Pavel Limerov and others. The game attempts an artistic reconstruction of the myth that the creators of these bronze artefacts believed. The game is translated to Komi-Permian

Music was composed by Mikhail Shvachko, taking inspiration from authentic melodies of Komi-Permian people as well as authentic instruments. Choral performances include "Asya Kia" and "En dzodzogez" recorded by Perm Krai College of Arts and Culture on Komi-Zyrian and Komi-Permian laguages. The game features a narrative voice-over in Komi-Permian.

Black Book

Outwit the devilish forces and open all the seals on the Black Book. The game is set in late XIXth century Perm District, north of Cherdyn. This is an RPG with deckbuilding elements featuring a narrative inspired by folklore demon stories.

Narrative is based on Bailichkas, which are short stories about an allegedly true event of meeting with spirits and demons.

Ethnic Foundation: As with previous project, our game features a narrative based on authentic folklore. In this game we are focusing on Russian myths. We are being consulted by Konstantin Shumov, a scientific expert in this field, ehtnographist and collector of bailichkas. We are continuing our work with Perm Museum of Local Lore, and the game will feature maps based on XIXth century maps of Cherdyn' District that we've found in the archives. Several buildings that are featured in the game are based on historical prototypes that are preserved in Architectural and ethnographic museum Khokhlovka and in Museum of History of Salt in Solikamsk

I didnt heard about them. May be some russian of komi origin exist. I dont think that their stand up comedians or some KVN show on native language is top level but it exist.
