I was not doubting that you had some German ancestry down the line, since how otherwise you would have got H10, but little bit surprised it's so recent as the 19th century, and it has to be Danube Swabian, since I also traced back several of my Danube Swabian lineage to Hessen. The Austrians have populated Historic Southern Hungary with many-many Germans, and since they were largely Catholic, they could have easily marry in with a fellow Croatian Catholic, the same way they often did with Hungarian Catholics.

Yes. I really don't know why I score so little German autosomally, maybe it's just recombination. Because my mother and uncle are both very stereotypical German looking (''brick faced'' Faelids mostly).
I should be around 16%, but I am way less than that. I guess DNA works that way. Sometimes you inherit it, sometimes not.

Cool that you have ancestry from Hessen too. I am sure you would be among my matches if you took same test.
