Next to no Englishman would consider himself Germanic, Germanic identity has zero importance in the uk save for a few history geeks who are disenchanted with modern Britain. Pan-Germanic, Pan-Celtic, Pan-Slavic, Pan-Romance etc identity is mostly a meme everywhere. Most people only care about their nations. Celtic, Germanic etc are historical categories that have little relevance today.

Well I would say it was like a kind of cultural bond, in Nazi Germany there was something similar, but all that was in the past.
