Where did Pontids originate from?

One of the many mysteries of European anthropology is the sudden appearance of Pontids in Eastern Europe during the Middle Ages without any migration to explain it. I'm talking in particular about populations East of Carpathians and West of Urals (SE Europe) where there was barely any Med according to anthropologists but now Pontid holds a relative majority: Moldova, Ukraine, Southern Russia. Most likely modern Pontic Mediterranean types in SE Balkans and SW Ukraine could well be descendants of Early Anatolian Farmers that mixed west with WHG probably forming the LBK/Danubian and maybe east with proto WSH forming Trypilian culture.

This seems true for Bulgaria and Roumania and maybe Pontic shore of Ukraine and Crimea.
but further north (W Ukraine and Poland the Med element seems minoritarian and much less marked compared to other types.

The usual mistake on Anthrofora is to call any Eastern European with brown hair “Pontic” or “North Pontic”.

The Dark element in south Russia should also consider the influence of the darker element of WSH as well as successive Steppe waves and t proximity to Caucasus.

Neolithic Anatolian farmers + some steppe IE input = Pontids
I think phenotype formed when first vawe of Indo-European tribes entered Balkans and assimilated predominant farmer population, creating Thracians(Dacians), Illyrians and Greeks.

East Mediterraneans of a kind. Bulgars are partly responsible for their arrival on the Balkans and in Ukraine, too (they lived there before crossing the Danube).

It's intra-population selection (different breeding and death rates, mostly), just as Osteuropids multiplied e.g. in Poland since medieval times (and Alpines in Germany) without much external admixture

You mean natural selection... Very good argument for sudden re-emergence of Baltids and Alpinids in areas that used to be Aryan mostly. Intensive agriculture favors peasants with stocky constitution, just as much as pastoralism favors taller and lankier individuals.

But still, that doesn't explain the sudden appearance of Pontids in Southern Ukraine. That area was almost purely "Nordic" until the great Turkic invasions.
