It can be named like that. Pomaks are bilingual but prefer to speak Turkish in their daily lives. There are also Gagauzs but have no social connection with Turks though their mother tongue are the same.

Do you feel opressed from the Greek state?

From a scale of 1 to 10, how opressed do you feel?

From what I get, Pomaks are trying to resist Turkish brainwashing in Thrace.

    And they want Greek-speaking schools.

I'm not saying that they should be baptized as Greeks but there is an obvious propaganda of Erdogan to proselytize Balkan muslims.

I know Greeks and Serbs 1000 times better than Turks.

You want them to become Greeks as a first phase, one of the future phases (their descendants) would be conversion to Christianity.

It differs a lot in the situation of the Pomaks:

1-There are four villages in the West of Xanthi which even supported the Greek occupation while Turks have their own republic in 1913. Source of their thought comes from being strictly Islamist and they think that Turks are secular and destroy their religion(Greece promised them to have their own Islamic institutes). These people speak Greece like their mother tongue.

2- Eastern of Xanthi speaks both Pomak and Turkish in their daily lives and they live together with Turks, most have intermarried. They have the most typical Pomak accent(continuum of Smoljan) and have the highest amount of Pomak population in the Western Thrace. These people usually side with Turks, but still, there should be some Pomak nationalists who want to be identified only with Pomak name. They usually speak Greek too.

3- Western Komotini most Turkified part, live in the same villages with Turks thanks to the Greek Civil War. Bulgarian supported commies were raiding their villages and they all had to migrate to the plain. Only old individuals speak Pomak but even they prefer to speak Turkish. The young generation can't speak Pomak. Identify as Turk and see Pomak ethnicity something bad. Old people can't speak Greek, children hardly learn Greek till the military service. Almost all of them already intermarried with Turks.

4- Eastern Komotini / Evros ones are Alevis while other Pomaks are Sunni. They speak Pomak and Turkish in daily lives. Strongly connected with the Turkish community. The old generation doesn't know Greek but the new generation has to go to Greek schools since the closest minority school in Komotini which is far from their villages. Not much different than 3.

They are very religious compared to Turks, in general, and more radical in their Muslim Turk identification except for 1. Turks seem to be more moderate and open-minded. The new generation of 3 and 4 usually prefer to continue their education in Turkey after/with high school like most of Turks. The ones prefer to stay in Greece most likely prefer Greek schools or not going to continue their education.

Back to the topic, minority schools have not been knowing with a good reputation even among Turks and Pomaks. It offers a low-quality education and the ones who have the possibility prefer to go to Greek schools. Here she complains about it.

To be honest, yes we feel oppressed by the Greek government. You may already have heard or can predict our major problems. But there are also the other ones, for example, if one would go to Turkey and live there like 4-5 years, we know that when s/he comes back to Greece s/he won't be a Greek citizen -happened many times in the past-. We know if we use Turkish signs in our stores, etc., there will be some consequences. We know that if we want to be officer there will be positive discrimination to Greeks. Despite we have our right to elect our own mufti Greek government appoint one to take us under control. It can go like that, but i don't think arguing on it will solve our problems. On the other hand, i can say that we really well along with our Greek neighbors and have no problem with Greek society in our social lives.

Muslim Greek was a term long ago when people of anatolia converted, 700 years ago, but those people are now 100% Turks both racially, linguistically, culturally and every other sense.

After all I don't remember that Western Thrace was ever populated by Greeks ... it was a territory of Vlachs (Ancient Thracian people) who spoke Latin and Greek mixed.
Soon enough you are going to tell us that Constantinople was a Vlach colony, when everybody knows that only a few Patrician families moved from Rome to Byzantium...

Have you heard of the Jirecek line, you moron???
